The temperature may not feel like Christmas, but at the United Way of Southern West Virginia, Christmas trees are top of mind! Preparations for the 4th annual Wonderland of Trees event are in full swing. It's where you'll find our event that's new this year! We are very grateful to Sarah Abrams and Rachel Hopkins who have offered our Wonderland of Trees event a new home! Lewis Automotives' SUZUKI Showroom will be the location of this year's event. "It feels like the perfect place to showcase our beautiful Christmas trees", says Margaret O'Neal from United Way of Southern West Virginia. "A big open space with great windows and lots of parking makes an ideal place to display our trees and hold our auction." With approximately half of the fifty trees already sold, we are looking for an additional twenty five businesses or organizations that would like to participate this year. Each tree is sponsored for $125 which ensures that each sponsor has the same 7 1/2 foot pre lit evergreen tree. Trees will once again be set up, fluffed and eagerly waiting to be decorated.

Trees will be set up and ready to decorate on Monday, October 29th at noon. Decorations must be completed by 4:00pm on Thursday, November 1st. Trees will be on display from November 2nd thru November 16th. Our live auction will be Friday, November 16th beginning at 5:30pm. During the two weeks the trees are on display, visitors may vote for their favorite for a $1 donation to the United Way. Every vote for People's Choice is entered in a drawing for a 40” LCD flat screen TV from John Eye Big Sandy Superstore.

Collector edition tree ornaments will be available for purchase during the two weeks the trees are on display. Ornaments from our first three years, plus, this year's addition based on our "People's Choice Award Winner" from last year. T&K Karts and Hobbies Airplane themed tree won that award which means this year's ornament will feature an airplane! All four ornaments are hand crafted by Tamarack artisan, Mr. Doug Coleman. The ornaments are glass with each design hand etched by Mr. Coleman. "We feel like adding these collector ornaments, designed and created by a West Virginia artist, has been a huge success. Mr. Coleman has worked hard to ensure the beauty of these ornaments and they are a great addition to any Christmas tree", says Margaret O'Neal, Director of the United Way.

We know that there are great companies, churches, civic groups and individuals in all five of our counties that could decorate a beautiful Christmas tree. Please remember that all proceeds from the trees, votes and auction benefit the United Way's annual fund raising campaign. This year's goal is $500,000.00 and will benefit 32 non profit partners in southern West Virginia.
